5 Reasons a Casino WON’T Pay you when you Win

Before you start celebrating your next big win at an Online Casino, take some time to think about whether you’ve given them a reason NOT to pay you that money. It happens more often than you’d think, and most of the time it’s due to simple mistakes by the player - don’t let this happen to you!

1. Not reading the bonus terms and conditions - This is really important, if you claim a bonus, then you need to know what is and isn’t allowed. If the bonus terms say you can play Slots or Keno only, then that’s what you play… some casinos will just ignore any wagering on other games and still pay once you complete the wagering requirements, but others will void the bonus entirely if you play just a few hands of an excluded game. Why? Because it can change the composition of the bonus. Most Slots only bonuses are quite generous to reflect the higher house edge on those games, a popular method of bonus abuse for this situation is to begin by betting everything on a single hand of BlackJack (a much lower house edge), giving the player a roughly 50% chance they’ll double their money or lose it all. This has the effect of significantly increasing the variance of results and can turn an otherwise negative expectation into a positive one.

2. Providing false or misleading information - When you register an account at an online casino, make sure you always use your real details. It’s a requirement of most sites that you have to prove your identity by faxing or emailing copies of your drivers license, passport etc. before you can complete your first withdrawal. If this information is different to your registered details then you may have problems.

Not all casinos are that strict, as long as your credit card or Neteller account are in the same name as the one you’ve registered on your account you probably won’t have problems. Taking this a step further, if you signup for a no deposit bonus and enter obviously fake details (invalid email address, funny names, spammy address and phone number etc.), then don’t expect to be paid if you win… trying to change your details to the correct ones after you win is usually too little, too late (if your account hasn’t already been banned before you make a withdrawal).

3. You’ve opened multiple accounts - as mentioned in my recent post ‘Why you shouldn’t Create more than One Account at a Casino‘ If you’ve opened more than one account at the casino and used them to claim bonuses, then chances are you’ll have your accounts banned and withdrawals refused. Most bonuses are designed to be claimed once per person, any abuse of this (which is very common, especially for no deposit bonuses), is not going to be looked on favorably by the casino. Genuine mistakes, like having an account more than six months ago you’ve forgotten about will often be ok, but does still provide an ‘out’ for the casino should they choose to use it.

4. Tagged as a ‘Bonus Abuser’ - This one is sometimes hard to define, most casinos get a bit edgy when people try to take advantage of the bonuses they offer for new players and have no intention of playing again in the casino once they’ve completed the wagering on that one bonus. Technically, if you meet all the terms and conditions, complete the wagering requirements and do everything else by the book, you should be ok (although you may not get any future bonuses offered to you from that casino grroup). There are a couple of simple things you can do to minimize any troubles in this area:

  • Don’t stop betting the second you complete the wagering requirements, play on for a few more minutes and make it look like you’re enjoying yourself!
  • Don’t start off betting big and then after a couple of wins drop back to the minimum bet until you get through the wagering requirements… mix it up a bit.

5. The Casino runs out of money - This one can be a hard one to pick, but if the casino is in trouble financially, they may simply not be able to pay you your money. Stick to casinos that have been around for some time (or those that are really new and haven’t had a chance to run out of money yet!), look for signs on forums about other people complaining about non-payment (one or two grumblings are often normal, but when a few reports start to roll in you know there may be a problem).

There you have it, keep those five points in mind and you shouldn’t have any trouble getting paid when you hit that big win at the casino. It’s hard enough to come away with the cash as it is, don’t give them a reason to hold onto it when you do win.
